This site will be your best friend this year!

Everything you need is here:  Links to grades and online textbooks (when they exist), copies of every assignment and scoring rubric, calendars for every class with assignment and assessment due dates. . ..

Retake Policy

As many of you know, Newberg School District has  an Assessment Retake Policy.  While those students who receive less than a 70% on a summative assessment are strongly encouraged to complete a retake, any student who wishes to improve their grade may do so. Students will need to complete a retake plan as well as the reassessment within one week of receiving their grade on the original assessment. I do enforce this policy strictly as I have found that those who attempt to retake after more than a week, rarely do well on the assessment as we have moved on to new curriculum.  When I pass back assessments, I have retake plans already made and offer them to the students.

Know Your Grades!

Please check your grade in Synergy!  If you are missing any assignments or need to complete retakes, you can find copies of what you need in the class section on this site.

Keeping up with your work is the best way to earn a high grade!

Welcome to Seventh Grade!

7th grade is a crazy year!

Expectations are higher as we begin the transition to higher education.  For the first time, it is no longer enough to simply know the information, students must be able to explain, analyze, and apply knowledge, all while forming connections.  Students and parents are often surprised by the increase in the state standards between 6th and 7th grade.  Many remark that they are having to study for the very first time.

If your student begins to struggle, please let me know.  After school help is available. My goal is that every student be successful!

That being said, students in my class should have on average 30 minutes or less of homework per night.  If you are not seeing any, your student may not be completing their work or the work is too easy.  If you are seeing more, there could be multiple issues.  Either class time is not being utilized, the student is doing an assignment in one night when multiple nights were provided, or the material is perhaps too difficult.  Either way, please contact me so I can ensure your student is getting the most out of my class as possible.

Class Read-a-Louds

I will be reading some age appropriate novels in class during quiet work-time or any time we have a spare 5 minutes.  Each of these novels are part of a longer series and students may decide they would like the next novel(s).

Here is the list:

The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen

Michael Vey by Richard Paul Evans

The Books of Beginning:  Emerald Atlas by John Stephens
